July 07 2014
All media houses
Attention News Editor,
RE: NEED TO PREACH PEACE AND UNITY IN OUR COUNTRY
Receive warm greetings and cordial regards from the Kenya Conference of Catholic Bishops.
In the recent past, the Catholic Bishops have been studying the deteriorating state of our state as relates to heightened state of insecurity, the rising political temperatures tending towards negative ethnicity and the perceived inherent corruption within our systems.
We are greatly concerned and have as a result initiated discussions at different levels with political leaders and engaged different community groups in our ongoing peace building and governance programmes.
We wish to appeal to you to join the Conference of Catholic Bishops in promoting peaceful co-existence among Kenyans irrespective of their political and ethnic affiliation.
We acknowledge that the Media play a pivotal role in information circulation and opinion forming and therefore appeal to you and your media house to:
·        Reintroduce the peace messages on all media as were played before, during and after the last General elections considering that they played an important role during that time.
·        Ensure unbiased content which does not incite on all media.
·        Moderate live coverage especially of political rallies as well as guest speakers on Television and radio shows.
We acknowledge that it will take the concerted efforts of all Kenyans and especially deliberate action by mainstream media to restore the confidence of the people of Kenya in our country. The solutions to this crisis must be found by all citizens through our intervention.
Kindly join us to help ensure peaceful coexistence and unity in our country Kenya.
Yours faithfully,
