This year’s international theme is; ‘working together towards a world without discrimination: building on the experience and knowledge of people in extreme poverty.’
Extreme poverty
destroys the lives and spirit of people - it kills more children, young
persons, and adults than even war. Every day, people living in extreme poverty
are challenged and threatened by lack of food, shelter and access to essential
services.
The main question then
is why such a situation has been tolerated in a world full of plenty. Is
there something missing in our approach to poverty reduction? Is
there a problem of leadership, focus, and commitment by the leadership? Are
the poor really at the center of the development agenda?
As the Church, anything
we can do in order to empower people to overcome poverty is part
of our ministry. . We are committed to working
for the human dignity of all.
