AMECEA participates in IMBISA Elections Monitoring in Zimbabwe


AMECEA Justice and Peace has joined IMBISA Team of Election Monitoring for 2013 General Elections in Zimbabwe. The representative from AMECEA, Rev. Fr. Jude Waweru, arrived on 28th July 2013, to prepare for accreditation by Zimbabwe Electoral commission (ZEC) 

According to the information we have received from Rev. Fr. Jude Waweru who is in Zimbabwe, a heavy presence of the church in monitoring was registered. The team which is closely tied to Zimbabwe Bishop’s Conference, includes Bishops, Justice and Peace Commissions and religious sisters from various congregation, and has representation from countries like; Mozambique, South Africa, Zambia, Tanzania, Lesotho, Kenya among others. 

“Having gone through election monitoring yesterday we are still on the lookout to be able to determine whether peace has been sustainable.” Fr. Waweru said. “Apart from observing voting process, we also observed Vote counting process last night.” He added. 

The team is working alongside Southern African Development Community (SADC). AMECEA included IMBISA in the observing exercise of General Elections in Kenya, and this initiative is meant to promote collaboration between the two organizations.
